The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuiqi., Said on Wednesday that he would talk to the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdo .an, regarding the latter’s warning about lobbying for new recognitions for the statehood of Kosovo.
“Turkey is a superpower, Erdogan is a great leader. I will try to talk to him. Until September 1, we are obliged to refrain from lobbying, but if they start before this period… Turkey is superpower, Erdogan is big, I am small and insignificant, but Serbia is not small enough not to try to oppose this issue “, said Vuiqiiq during a visit to the Mansija Monastery in the western part of Serbia.
Serbia, with the Washington Agreement of September 4, 2020, has undertaken to stop the campaign for the withdrawal of recognitions of Kosovo, while Kosovo has undertaken the obligation not to apply for membership in international organizations for one year.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on July 19 that he would work to bring new recognitions to Kosovo.
According to the Reuters news agency, Erdogan told Turkish media that he hopes to raise the issue of Kosovo’s international recognition in talks with US President Joe Biden during the UN General Assembly this autumn.
Erdogan has said he will propose a joint work on the issue, to increase the number of countries recognizing Kosovo.
Kosovo declared independence in 2008.
According to the list published on the website of the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are 117 countries that recognize independence.
Serbia, since 2017, is said to be conducting a diplomatic campaign to attract recognition of the state of Kosovo.
As a result of this lobbying, some countries are said to have frozen cooperation relations with Kosovo.
