Six people died and 12 others went missing after a merchant ship capsized several miles south of Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

“The Coast Guard received an emergency call indicating the announcement at 4:30 p.m.,” according to a Coast Guard press release.

An urgent marine information alert was issued and many ‘good Samaritan boats’ responded, helping with rescues.

Also, the National Weather Service in New Orleans issued a special marine warning Tuesday about waves for coastal waters.
