US President Donald Trump said Mexican drug cartels should be “wiped off the face of the Earth.” The comments came after the event in northern Mexico, where suspected gang members massacred nine American women and children.
Members of the drug cartel may have mistakenly targeted the victim’s vehicle, reminding him of a rival drug gang, Mexican officials said.
President Trump wrote in a Tweeter: “If Mexico needs or needs help clearing these monsters, the United States is ready and able to do the job quickly and efficiently.”
But Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador declined, saying previous Mexican governments had tried a military solution that “did not work”.
The ambush took place Monday in a remote area of Mexico’s northern Sinaloa state, where the Sinaloa cartel had engaged in a long and bloody war with crowds with rival drug gangs.
